Mission

Restoring dignity and connection after loss

Helping Hearts restores dignity and connection to those carrying unattended grief by providing compassionate support, educating communities in grief care, and advocating for the rights of children and families affected by death.

All programs
01

Advocacy for Grieving Children

We advocate for policies, benefits, and systems of care that protect grieving children and ensure families can access support after death. Our work centers dignity, equity, and the lived realities of bereaved families.

02

Grief Education, Internships, and Community Training

We educate communities, caregivers, and emerging professionals in grief-informed care. Through training and internship pathways, we help people learn how to hold loss with skill, presence, and compassion.

03

Volunteer Training and Workforce Development

We prepare volunteers and future grief caregivers with practical training, mentorship, and pathways into meaningful service. Building this workforce expands the circle of support available to people in mourning.

04

Direct Grief Support

We offer support groups, peer companionship, and healing spaces where grievers can be seen, heard, and accompanied. No one should have to navigate loss without care.

A message from David Kessler

For decades, I've walked alongside grief — as a grief specialist, an author, and, just as importantly, as someone who has lived it. I am a bereaved child and a bereaved parent. I watched my own father struggle after the death of my mother, his spouse of many years, and in that experience I saw clearly how much was missing: advocacy, education, and real, sustained support for families like ours.

That's how Helping Hearts was born.
